What Is the BGE Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program
BGE Home Performance with ENERGY STAR is an EmPOWER Maryland energy efficiency program available to all BGE residential customers. The program uses a whole-home approach (starting with a professional energy audit) to identify where your home is losing energy and what improvements will deliver the best results.
The program has been running since 2008 and has saved Maryland homeowners $14.5 billion on installed measures. It is one of the most generous home performance rebate programs available in the Mid-Atlantic region.
York Home Performance is an approved BGE HPwES contractor. That means we are authorized to perform qualifying audits, submit rebate paperwork directly to BGE on your behalf, and guide you through every step of the program.
How the BGE HPwES Program Works
Schedule a home energy audit
A BPI-certified auditor from York Home Performance visits your home and performs a comprehensive assessment, including a blower door test, thermal imaging, carbon monoxide testing, and gas leak detection. The audit costs $100 and is a required first step.
Receive your customized report
We use BGE-approved energy modeling software to calculate the estimated energy savings for each recommended improvement and the associated rebate amounts for your specific home.
Choose your improvements
You decide which upgrades to pursue based on your goals and budget. There is no obligation to complete any work after the audit.
We complete the work and submit paperwork
York Home Performance installs the approved improvements and handles all BGE rebate paperwork directly. You do not manage the program process.
BGE HPwES Rebate Amounts
Air Sealing and Insulation
Up to $10,000 or 75% of the total project cost, whichever is less. Rebate amounts are calculated based on estimated energy savings using BGE-approved modeling software. Actual rebates depend on your home's specific conditions and the scope of improvements completed.
Switching to Electric Heat Pump
Up to $15,000 or 75% of the job cost for customers switching from combustion fuel heating to an electric heat pump system.
Average Rebate
The average BGE HPwES rebate for a qualifying home performance project is approximately $3,000, though many homeowners receive significantly more depending on the scope of work.
